Mel Gibson- More to come:
We all remember the guy who stood in front of the blazing guns with a waving American flag with hair till shoulder, fighting for America. Yes, folks The Patriot, Mel Gibson is back with his own production house and a gritty action film.
"Get the gringo" will be delivered directly on your Direct TV, this May 1. The excusive premiere will be available on a charge of $10.99 per home. Direct TV customers can enjoy the premiere but the Blu-ray, VOD, and digital download will happen later in the year only.
We have seen Gibson risk it all with his productions like "The Passion of the Christ", "Apocalypto" and harvest the sweet fruit of success. Gibson's personal issues might stand in the way of his box office release, but for his fans this can be another feather in his hat.
"Get The Gringo" is an R-rated gritty action movie. It's directed by Adrian Grunberg along with Gibson contributing to the script part. The film has action, dark humor and plenty of violence. Gibson plays Driver, who, during a high-speed car chase with the U.S. Border Patrol and a bleeding body in his back seat, crashes into the border wall as he tries to escape. He survives, only to be placed inside a hard-core Mexican prison where he enters the strange and dangerous world of "El Pueblito." But a 10 year old kid shows him a candle to his survival.
Fox and DirecTV and Icon will be doing a national marketing campaign for the movie, which will kick-off with a premiere screening event in Austin hosted by "Ain't It Cool" News founder Harry Knowles.
Gibson and his team were attracted to the marketing and commercial aspects of VOD and Direct TV. Supporting their hopes and expectations came Fox Home Entertainment president Mike Dunn's words "As digital distribution evolves, we are constantly looking at new ways to bring the consumer greater access than ever before to our movies. Reaching nearly 20 million households on the DirecTV premium platform offers us an opportunity to explore innovative approaches like this one for Get The Gringo."
Every time Gibson has taken up a risky venture we all know how the story went. Box office hits prove that he can do it. So will Get the Gringo be able to jump the hurdles?? Let's wait and see.
